Glaucestor, Rhode Island

We walked along the shores of this lake and then followed a trail that brought us past empty camping spots that will soon be filled with people enjoying the outdoors. Walking through here certainly made me want to get out camping myself, and pretty soon that's exactly what we'll be doing!

Old Lyme, Connecticut

Looking out over this preserve, I was lucky enough to see a Great Blue Heron lift up out of the tall grass, flap it's wings in slow majestic grace, and rise up over the treeline before disappearing into the clear sky.

Riverton, Connecticut

You can pretty much see the whole town center right from the steps of this general store. The drive into town passes some of the most beautiful pine forest in the whole state. Inside the store you'll find locals just hanging out enjoying some coffee and chit chat, and you can buy the best sandwiches you'll eat out on the back roads.

Quick Stop # 2

This is the time of year when the sap starts to run in sugar maple trees here in New England and a common back road sight is silver buckets hanging from the tree trunks. Soon all that sap will be boiled down to make my favorite food item; maple syrup! When I was walking along the road, getting these pictures, I could actually hear the pinging of sap dripping into the buckets.

Great Barrington, Massachusetts

Our drive took us past rolling farm fields bordered by distant mountains and on into quaint downtown Great Barrington. It was a busy little place and very charming, like entering a mini-metropolis, but like the saying goes; don't blink or you'll miss everything!

About Me

My photo
Hi, and welcome to my blog! In my working life I'm a cook, and in my personal life I'm married and have two daughters, plus a Chihuahua named Minnie. I am also a culinary school graduate with a degree in pastry arts. When I have a day off the first thing I think about is getting my camera and hitting the road. I've always loved road trips and I've been carrying a camera since I got a 110 Instamatic for my birthday when I was a kid. So, we get in the car and travel all over seeking out new back roads and new places to visit. At least twice a year we head up to the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont and take in some of the best scenery New England has to offer, and we get to New Hampshire, too. We also do some shorter trips to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and sometimes even New York state (although it's not in New England) and once in a blue moon, we get to Maine. When I'm not on the road I'm right here at home reading, writing, watching some classic television like Andy Griffith, or Minnie and I are out strolling in the cemeteries enjoying the art and remembering the people.
