Sunset at Wethersfield Cove
It's just not summer, or August for that matter, if you don't take the time to go and watch a sunset.

The Von Trapp Lodge
Anyone who has seen The Sound Of Music would be familiar with the famous Von Trapp home which is now a popular ski resort in Stowe, Vermont. We drove up into the mountains to take a look at this famous landmark and enjoyed the quiet and the beautiful view. On the outside people were strolling along looking at the colorful wildflowers and the rolling hills in the distance, and inside people were sitting in comfortable chairs conversing and breathing in the fine aromas wafting from the kitchen.

The Jimmies/Sprinkles Debate

I was recently in northern Vermont and I took my daughter for ice cream. As we waited in line she noticed that one sign read "chocolate and rainbow jimmies available" and another one read "sprinkles" so she asked what is the difference? I explained that here in New England the term "jimmies" was the common vernacular and when I was I kid we never heard them called sprinkles. In fact, when I was older (perhaps in my teens or 20s) I was once asked by an ice cream stand worker if I wanted "sprinkles" on my cone and I stood there confused and replied, "huh"? The boy looked at me like I was from Mars and pointed to a big container of rainbow jimmies. Well, back to the Vermont trip, just to make me a liar, everyone ahead of us in line kept asking for sprinkles, but I figured someone has to keep New England traditions alive so when it was my turn I asked for some chocolate jimmies!

About Me
- Snow Day
- Hi, and welcome to my blog! In my working life I'm a cook, and in my personal life I'm married and have two daughters, plus a Chihuahua named Minnie. I am also a culinary school graduate with a degree in pastry arts. When I have a day off the first thing I think about is getting my camera and hitting the road. I've always loved road trips and I've been carrying a camera since I got a 110 Instamatic for my birthday when I was a kid. So, we get in the car and travel all over seeking out new back roads and new places to visit. At least twice a year we head up to the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont and take in some of the best scenery New England has to offer, and we get to New Hampshire, too. We also do some shorter trips to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and sometimes even New York state (although it's not in New England) and once in a blue moon, we get to Maine. When I'm not on the road I'm right here at home reading, writing, watching some classic television like Andy Griffith, or Minnie and I are out strolling in the cemeteries enjoying the art and remembering the people.
